Week 13: The never-ending Nurbs adventure

Finally, somehow some of the images in the render farm did not render and so I rendered the rest myself...then afterwards realised I'd rendered from the wrong scene... great. Thankfully, the process was not too time consuming, as I was only short about 25 frames. So well I got there in the end:

Week 13: Nurbs

Last minute rendering, I had hoped to receive my renders today, but unfortunately they could only be put into today's render batch :( so, it's all a waiting game for the camera movement.

For the stills with the ambient occlusion however:

I was having a few glitches getting my ambient occlusion to work, turns out it was an easy-enough fix.

So this is the reference image:

Week 9: Nurbs

Creating more props using curves in nurbs:

The chairs in particular were rather tricky. I had to adopt a number of techniques to get all of the shapes i required.

The glasses, plates, and mugs were really very simple once I gained an understanding of how to use the revolve tool properly.
I can honestly say I learned so much more and at a quicker rate when I was learning how to create the props. In retrospect, it seems to have taken me a great deal of time just to get familiar with using nurbs and curves as a means to modelling but I undoubtedly learned a lot from this project.

Week 8: Nurbs

In the image, there is a curtain in the back. It looks like it is most probably a small window, but it looked as though it could have been a door curtain and so I modeled a door. However, in the image the door/window is tucked away in the corner. I modeled my door further along the wall to a more suitable position.

I was rather looking forward to making the curtain. It was rather interesting seeing how the curves lofted together to make this shape. However, trying to get the curtain to look smooth and natural is proving to be a task.

Week 8: Nurbs

Another nurbs progress report:

Everything is beginning to look very blocked in. I think I need to try out some other curve tools to begin actually modelling more rounded objects.

I decided to begin re-modelling the door again from scratch using the curve i used to create the fridge body itself.

Week 7: Nurbs

Nurbs Progress: The Killer Fridge door try 01

After making the door, I realised that the top of the door did not match the shape of the top of the fridge itself...So I will have to re-model the top of the door to fit better...somehow.

Week 6: Nurbs Modelling

More Nurbs Progress...or slowgress

My progress on the nurbs project has been very snail-paced to say the least. I do finally think I'm starting to get the hang of it though. I just hope I can get the rest of the stuff done more quickly.

this is the scene I am building...with a bit of artistic license (because the angle is not ideal).

Week 5: Nurbs Modelling

Slowly but surely, I'm starting to get to grips with the process of modelling. However, the shapes are really simple and I believe this is probably why. Once getting round trying to make hard-edge shapes with the CV curve tool, there is a lot of duplicating that can be done.

I feel the use of curves will become more useful in creating the more organic shapes that are in the image.

Week 4: Nurbs modelling

Using the CV curve tool, I tried to create the hard-edge box shapes, applying more points to create the corners and then closing the curve created. Then duplicating the curve, resizing and lofting between to create the box surface/shape. This same rule was applied to the shelf and these shapes were just duplicated and re-sized to accomplish the desired shape.

The process started off surprisingly slowly, for such basic shapes. Having never modelled anything in nurbs and with very little 3D and maya experience in general, it took a while to get into the correct way of thinking.

Eventually it all kind of began to come together.
